The most common reasons for people to experience aching muscles or joints is overuse or injury. Other reasons for muscle pain include: trauma, sprains, hematoma, chronic tension, rhabdomyolysis, viral, compression injury, drug related ((fibrates and statins) ACE inhibitors, cocaine, some retro-viral drugs), severe potassium deficiency, fibromyalgia, infections, influenza (the flu), lyme disease, malaria, dengue fever, hemorrhagic fever, muscle abscess, polio, rocky mountain spotted fever, trichinosis (round worm), auto-immune disorders, systemic lupus erythematosus, polymyalgia rheumatica, polymyositis, dermatomyositis or multiple sclerosis. Also, aching muscles or joints can result from sudden cessation of high-dose corticosteroids, opioids, barbiturates, benzodiazepines or alcohol.
